Talking about DiversITy: Shattering the SaaS Ceiling

Yesterday, our Founder and COO, Eva Pittas, joined a panel held by Electric.ai on women in IT. With just 26% of computing-related jobs held by female-identifiers, the panel discussed long-standing issues with inclusion in the space. At Laika, Eva works diligently to foster a culture of inclusion.  With decades of executive-level experience, she understands that diverse companies perform better, hire better talent, have more engaged employees, and retain workers better than companies that do not focus on diversity and inclusion.  This core value has been baked into Laika’s culture from day 1.

We’re thrilled to be included in the AMA with women from all walks of IT and tech. The panel covered a variety of topics:

  • Why females are underrepresented in IT & tech more broadly
  • Necessary and effective strategies your organization should implement to boost gender diversity
  • How to combat underrepresentation, harassment, and gender bias in the workplace

While IT has stereotypically viewed as the “IT guy” sitting in a tiny office, somehow making the organization run smoothly, we’re seeing more womxn moving into the industry. How can we make space in a field that is so visibly male?

Implementing equity in the workplace

The women on the panel offered solutions to organizations looking to become more inclusive and equitable to female employees. At Laika, we’re working to execute on the initiatives mentioned in the panel:

  • Training managers to effectively communicate and educate employees
  • Fostering a culture of transparency and accountability, particularly encouraging male allies
  • Offering women a safe space to converse about their experiences
  • Recruiting new employees from diverse organizations and job boards

Laika is hiring for a variety of roles across our organization. We place a serious emphasis on diversity; if you are seeking a career in compliance, check out our open positions or reach out to our team directly.
